OUR BOAT:


DIVER TWO: 42' aluminum custom-built for diving comfort,

18 divers, shade, head, fresh water shower and camera bucket.

 

OUR LOCATION:

Our shop is on the waterfront at Honokohau Harbor, two miles north of Kailua town and 4 miles south of Kona Airport.

Diver Two is berthed at the harbor, and divers will be picked up right at the back door of our shop

 

 

 

WITH WHOM WILL I BE DIVING?

How many times have you wondered what the people you'll be diving with will be like? When I travel, I always try to find out something about with whom we are going diving. We at Kona Coast Divers are especially proud of our staff.

CREW

CAPTAIN: U.S.C.G. Certified/Licensed Operator


INSTRUCTOR: He or she is there to assist, answer any question regarding the dive site, equipment and updates on scuba skills.


DIVEMASTER/GUIDE: He or she is there to assist with your equipment, orientation of the dive site and the marine life of the site, and he or she will then be your underwater guide.

 

Captain Bob Jensen: Sioux City, Iowa.

 

PADI Instuctor /Operational Manager

Bob learned to dive in a quarry in Southern Minnesota in 1980 and since then has logged more than 7000 dives. Bob attended the Florida Institute of Technology, where he earned an Associates Degree in Sport Diving Operations. Bob has taught scuba in Iowa, Florida, Cayman Islands, Midway Island and Hawaii. He received his U.S.C.G. Captains License in 1989. Hobbies: Underwater photography, collecting antique Hawaiian soda bottles and shell collecting.

 

Captain Paul Robinson: Belmont, California

 

PADI, NAUI, and SSI Instructor with KCD since 1999 SPECIALTY: underwater photography, underwater hunting/collecting, rescue diver, and the specialties. First certified in 1979 in Pacifica, California, Paul has logged more than 2000 dives in places such as Malaysia, the Philippines, Australia, Sea of Cortez, numerous Caribbean locations, and most recently in the Norwegian North Sea. He graduated from Purdue University with a BS in engineering and has lived in Belgium and Norway. Paul has taught scuba diving in California for 18 years and has staffed the Sonoma Coast Diver Rescue workshop numerous times before moving to Hawaii in 1998. He especially enjoys working with new divers and students and sees it as an opportunity to spread his enthusiasm for exploring he "inner space." Hobbies: golf, running marathons, abalone and lobster diving in California and foreign travel and diving.

Instructor Bob Boles: Sasebo, Japan

 

PADI Instructor, with KCD since 2002.

Specialty: dive instruction, customer satisfaction in underwater diving. Certified in 1978, Bob was raised in Southern California and has been diving since saving his lunch money to buy his first wet suit 25 years ago. He has dived in Okinawa, the Channel Islands, the Southern California coast, and the islands that make up Hawaii. Bob has been a PADI dive instructor for six years. Recently retired following a 20 year career in law enforcement, he now looks forward to living and diving in Kona.

 

Divemaster Steven T. Pasamonte: El Paso, Texas

PADI and NAUI Divemaster with KCD since 2004

Steve has traveled the U.S. growing up with a military family. He has been diving since 1989. All his training was done in Puget Sound area in Washington State. He got my first glimpse of tropical waters when he moved to Hawaii in 2004. His hobbies: Biking, boating, mountain climbing, cars, home projects McGyver style.

 

 

Captain Jeff Irwin: Phoenix,Arizona

PADI Instructor with KCD since 1995

Jeff became a PADI Gold Instructor in 1980 at PADI Collage in San Diego. He worked in Grand Cayman for his first year as an instructor. Then he taught at Northern Arizona University, while owning a Exxon station for a few years. Jeff moved to Kona in 1985 to work in the dive industry full time. Jeff has been with KCD for the last 10 years. Jeff's hobbies are: Harleys,hotrods,day trading,and any kind of poker.

 

Divemaster Kara Osada , Denver, Colorado

PADI Divemaster with KCD since 2001

SPECIALTY: marine biology and dive site orientation. Kara Osada began diving at the age of 12 and became a PADI Assistant Instructor in 2001. Originally from Colorado, she has had a lifetime passion for the ocean that was nurtured by trips to the Atlantic, Pacific or the Caribbean throughout her childhood. Kara moved to the Big Island in 1999 to pursue higher education in Marine Science and Biology at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. Her work as a Research Diver with the Division of Aquatic Resources has enabled her to become the "Biologist on Board" the boat. To increase her understanding of the local manta rays that Kona Coast Divers dives with on the Manta Ray Madness dives, Kara worked as a Research Assistant spending most of her 2002 summer tracking local manta rays.

 

Videographer, Divemaster Martina Wing, Wuppertal, Germany

Martina has been with KCD since 2003

Martina came to Kona in 1998 and fell in love with the beauty of the underwater world. She is a full-time professional Videographer whose done about 3000 dives along the Kona Coast with her camera. She is also a PADI Divemaster.

Her specialty is the Manta Ray Dive. She joins our crew on those charters and loves to educate and inform you about those magnificent creatures. She will be sure to capture unforgettable images of you and the Manta Rays.

Instructor Mike Bernstone: Denver, Colorado

PADI Instructor, with KCD since 1996.

Specialty: customer satisfaction in underwater diving, micro marine life. Certified in 1984, Mike has diving experience in the Caribbean and Hawaii. He is a graduate of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and retired to Kona after selling his successful distribution business. Hobbies: Cycling, paddling, tennis, fishing, investments, photography and traveling

 

 

BOAT DIVES

Daily dive sites are not "pre-packaged," allowing for flexibility for divers' needs and changes in weather conditions.

Daily:

9:00 am two tank, two sites boat dives returning about 2:00 pm.

SCHEDULED:

"Manta Ray Madness" Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Times vary due to seasonal sunsets.

GROUPS, PRIVATE CHARTERS & CLUBS

Half day outings-9:00 am returning about 2:00 pm or (2:00 pm to 7:00 pm) or (4:00 pm to 10 pm) Full day outings- 9:00 am to 5 pm

THE FULL SERVICE CENTER

The shop and operations center: Located only three steps from the water, our new and exciting shop is a full service center, located on the water in Honokohau Marina. KCD is a one stop facility. All under one roof: a retail outlet, Scuba repair facility, oil-less air refill station, full equipment rental station, and the best fully guided underwater scuba tours in Hawaii

RETAIL

The Kona Coast Divers' retail department is filled with the top of the line equipment from Aqualung and other manufacturers. KCD also has the finest collection of in-house custom designed T-shirts. They are unique. We also carry post cards, maps, and fish ID cards, local custom jewelry, as well as used rental equipment.

AIR REFILLS

Kona Coast Divers' air refill station is the largest, cleanest, OIL-FREE air in the Hawaiian Islands. The system is operated with two oil-less KB's by RIXS compressors with thirty 3500 p.s.i. storage cylinders holding more than 5800 cubic feet of fast, fresh, clean air.

RENTALS

The Kona Coast Divers' scuba and snorkeling RENTAL DEPARTMENT has the best maintained and up dated equipment on the island. KCD's scuba cylinders range in size from 50 cubic ft. to 80 cubic ft. We also rent a full line of masks (including optical), fins and snorkels, shorty wet suits, and boogie boards and u/w cameras.

REPAIRS

Kona Coast Divers has the most updated and high tech scuba repair facility in Hawaii. We would be more than happy to pre-check your equipment before making that plunge into the deep blue.

CLASSES

Kona Coast Divers, d.b.a. Kona Coast Scuba School, is an on-site facility for PADI, NAUl and SSI. The facility has a well equipped, air-conditioned classroom with hands on equipment, a small library, videos.
